Fiber Bloom

In Fiber Bloom, hair becomes a partner to plants , like a organic fertilizer. Keratin fibers help retain soil moisture, improve soil structure by creating air pockets for roots, and as they slowly decompose, gradually release nutrients like nitrogen into the soil.

I started by testing how moss could grow on a felted hair mat. While experimenting, the hair itself started to look like moss — and became a new kind of botanical textile.

Is an inspiration from a Japanese kokedama moss plant ball made from keratin fibers.
