Birds with out borders / Muuttolinnut
The story of these birds is closely connected to the origin of the material and the long journey it has travelled.
Did you know that in India, people travel great distances to Hindu temples to receive a blessing through a ritual in which their heads are shaved?
The hair remains at the temples, where its processing provides employment for local people, while its sale generates significant income for the temples.
The journey continues to Western countries. Bleached, dyed, and surface-treated hair travels through wholesalers to hairdressers, who use it to give their clients longer, fuller hair.
After months of use, these same fibres have eventually found their way into my hands.
Through my art, I want to draw attention to the origins of materials and invite us to question where they come from, where they go, and whether they ever truly disappear.
Above all, I want to explore how WE ARE ALL CONNECTED to one another, often without even realising it.
Human hair fibers and sea weed , only biodegradable materials.
